Buying for festivals

Festivals are when the Souq is busiest and when many families add to their gold. Coins in 22K and 24K, chains and bangles are the usual choices because they are bought by weight and easy to compare. Come early in the day; the rate is set each morning.

On VAT: 24K coins and bars of 99% purity or more are zero-rated, while 22K coins and jewellery carry 5%.
