Questions about the gold rate

How is the Dubai gold rate set each day?

Our board shows the Dubai Jewellery Group suggested retail rate in AED per gram, which follows the international gold price converted to dirhams per gram. It is published each morning and can move during the day if the market moves sharply.

Why is 22K cheaper per gram than 24K?

Karat is purity. 24K is 99.9% gold; 22K (stamped 916) is 91.6% gold alloyed with copper and silver for strength, so a gram of 22K contains less pure gold and costs less.

Is the price of a piece just weight times the rate?

Weight times the day’s rate gives the gold value. A making charge for the craftsmanship is added on top, then 5% VAT. We quote all three separately so you can compare.

Can I book today’s rate for a wedding order?

Ask whether rate booking is available for your order. Where it is, an advance paid once the design and gold weight are agreed holds the rate for that order; during a campaign the offer page states the booking terms.

Is there VAT on gold in Dubai?

Jewellery carries 5% VAT on the gold value and the making charge. Investment gold of 99% purity or higher, such as 24K bars and coins, is zero-rated. Tourists may be able to reclaim VAT on jewellery through the UAE Planet Tax Free scheme; ask in store whether your purchase qualifies.
